Androgen hormone stimulates sebaceous glands which produces a oily substance called sebum. The overproduction of sebum blocks the pores which results in a skin bacteria p. bacteria becoming active feeding on sebum, fatty acids and keratin. The bacteria irritates the walls of the follicles causing inflammation.

The treatment short, safe bursts of intense pulsed light are directed to the skin which reduces the blood supply to the sebaceous gland, slowing the production of sebum.
The best results are achieved on inflammatory acne; red, aching, raised pimples.
It is important your skin does not have a recent sun tan
To treat a full face to include consultation and preparation you should count on 20 minutes in the clinic.
A typical course of therapy is 4 treatments, 3 weeks apart
Many clients describe the treatment as practically pain-free, like a flick from a rubber band followed by a warm glow.
Results vary from person to person. You may notice some general redness on the area being treated. The bacteria is difficult to eradicate completely and you may be advised by your GP to continue to take your prescription for some months after the treatment has ended. Due to hormonal imbalances if you have a future acne breakout your treatment can be repeated.
